Eastern Africa has some of the world’s most vulnerable refugees

THE ISSUE

CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD ARE TORN FROM THEIR FAMILIES when war, militant uprisings, or political violence invade their lives. Too often young girls are left alone, kidnapped by guerrilla groups or militias, sometimes with unplanned children, and permanently separated from all they have ever known. The dream of returning to their homes is frequently not realistic. They are forced to reinvent secure futures in a new country with limited access to resources or educational opportunities.

THE
MISSION

OUR PROGRAM GENTLY ENCOURAGES SELF-EXPLORATION through intensive individual and group assignments. We ask for focus and follow-through so that our young students experience the satisfaction of achievement and learn how much they are capable of.  We want them to know that they can build real lives from their imaginings.

THE IMPACT

OUR GRADUATES HAVE BUILT SMALL BUSINESSES, completed high school, and have gone on to two and four-year college programs in Africa or in new host countries, amongst so many other achievements. We have an award-winning poet, a fashion designer, a social worker, an aspiring nurse who manages her section of a hospital, and a young Goodwill ambassador all of whom completed our program soon after their life as a refugee began. Though we don’t claim to be the sole reason they are achieving so much, we are honored that they consider I’ll Tell You My Story an important part of their journeys.
